Confused by Fiber Cable Types?

图片
A friend has told me that she had some trouble in selecting the fiber cable recently. Maybe there are many people like her that are confused by fiber cable types. If you happen to be the one, you can find answer in this article. Since you are just lost in the types, let’s just skip the definition of it. (You can find this part in my previous post— Big Secret in Fiber Cable Types . It will be analyzed in two major issues, and that is fiber core and connector. Different Fiber Cable Types Based on Fiber Cores OM1 cable are typically wrapped by an orange jacket and has a core size of 62.5 micrometers (µm). It can support 10 Gigabit Ethernet at lengths up 33 meters. It is most commonly used for 100 Megabit Ethernet applications. OM2 also has a suggested jacket color of orange. Its core size is 50µm instead of 62.5µm. It supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet at lengths up to 82 meters but is more commonly used for 1 Gigabit Ethernet applications. OM3 has a suggested jacket color of aqua. It

The Overview of 1000BASE-SX SFP and 1000BASE-LX SFP

Nowadays, there exists five physical layer standards for Gigabit Ethernet, adopting optical fiber, twisted pair cable, or shielded balanced copper cable. They are 1000BASE-X, 1000BASE-T and 1000BASE-CX. Today, let’s see the 1000BASE-X first. “X” in the term refers to 4B/5B block coding for Fast Ethernet or 8B/10B block coding for Gigabit Ethernet. 1000BASE-X is used for gigabit Ethernet connections that transmit data mainly over fiber optic cable. When referring to 1000BASE-X, two popular types of it can not be neglected, that is 1000BASE-SX SFP and 1000BASE-LX SFP. 1000BASE-SX SFP The SX systems allows data being transmitted in two opposite directions simultaneously, but it is operated with multimode fiber only, using the cheaper 850nm wavelength laser diodes. According to the bandwidth and attenuation of the fiber optic cable connected, the maximum distance supported varies between 220 and 550 meters. The 1000BASE-SX SFP transceiver module is highly compatible with the 1000BASE-

SFP+ Cable: Connecting the Future

Seen from the outside, it looks like a rope. But inside it, when it is working, something magic appears. That is the Direct Attach Copper Cable, DAC for short. It is a type of factory terminated cable assembly used to connect two mobility access switches when forming a stack. The cable assembly consists of a high speed copper cable and two connectors. There are many different direct attach cables, including SFP cables, SFP+ cables and QSFP cables. In the following part, some basic information about SFP+ direct attach copper cable will be displayed. What Is 10G SFP+ Cable? 10G SFP+ cable allows for a serial data transmission up to 10.3Gb/s, meeting or exceeding current Standards Specifications and is hot-removable and hot-insertable, which means that you can remove and replace them without powering off the switch or disrupting switch functions. In addition, It is designed with the same port as an optical transceiver, but compared with optical transceiver, the connector modules atta

Optical Transceiver Wiki

The optical transceiver, the transmission carrier between the switchboard and the device, consists of optoelectronic devices, functional circuits, and optical interfaces. The optoelectronic devices include transmitting and receiving parts. The optical transceiver aims to achieve photoelectric conversion and is more efficient and safer than the converters. The transmitting end converts the electrical signal into an optical signal. After being transmitted through the optical fiber, the receiving end converts the optical signal into an electrical signal. In this article, we will discuss the transceiver from two perspectives, that is, optical transceiver types and how to choose an optical transceiver. Optical Transceiver Types Before discussing how to select an optical transceiver, we need to have a basic understanding of common packaged optical transceiver. In this part, the SFP, SFP+, QSFP+, and QSFP28 packaged optical transceivers will be introduced respectively. SFP Optical Tran
